Snow Removal Cost in Calgary: Monthly, Seasonal & Per Visit

Compare Calgary snow removal prices, define driveway and sidewalk coverage, and understand timing, ice treatment and seasonal contract terms.

Published Calgary residential snow-removal offers currently include about $170–$199 per month for several standard-home packages, with lower or higher prices for different scopes. A single visit can be priced separately. The area cleared, response time and contract length matter more than the headline number.

Before comparing quotes, draw the exact service area: public sidewalk, private walk, steps, driveway and any additional access. Two companies may use “standard home” to mean different things.

Current published price examples

These local offers provide a starting point, not a citywide average:

  • Frost Crew lists $170 per month for its standard residential plan and $50 per visit for one-time clearing.
  • Arrowhead Landscaping's 2026 price list lists $149 per month plus tax for front sidewalk and steps, and $179 plus tax for a driveway up to 600 square feet in its pricing grid.
  • Absolute Yardworks lists a residential subscription at $199 per month and describes its seasonal service period as November 1 to April 30.

Ask each provider to confirm availability, the price for your address and what is included. Prices are in Canadian dollars; tax treatment is not stated identically on every source page.

Monthly and seasonal prices are not interchangeable

A monthly amount needs to be multiplied by the number of months you are committing to. A seasonal offer needs clear start and end dates.

For illustration, six months at $179 equals $1,074 before any applicable tax or extras. That is arithmetic using the published monthly figure, not a statement that every customer can buy that exact six-month contract.

Ask whether early or late snowfalls are covered and what happens if you move or sell during the term. Also check whether payment is monthly, prepaid or subject to a minimum commitment.

A cheaper seasonal total may cover a shorter period or a smaller service area. Compare those details before comparing the final number.

Per visit can suit a different need

Per-visit service may be useful for a short absence or occasional help. Ask how a visit is triggered and whether booking is guaranteed during a busy storm.

Be precise about “one visit.” Does it cover snow that falls after the crew leaves? Is a second visit during a prolonged snowfall charged again? Does a city-plow windrow at the end of the driveway qualify as another service?

As a simple comparison, four visits at $50 would total $200. That does not predict the weather or prove a monthly plan is better; it shows the point at which that particular arithmetic changes.

Timing should match the work you need

Ask when the provider starts a route, what accumulation triggers service and how it handles continuous snowfall. A plan that waits for a depth threshold may not address every light snowfall or ice event.

The City of Calgary snow-and-ice bylaw guidance requires bordering public sidewalks to be cleared to the bare surface within 24 hours after snowfall ends. Hiring someone does not remove the need to make sure the work is completed.

Ask how missed visits are reported and how quickly the company responds. If you will be away, request completion notifications or photographs if the provider offers them.

Ice treatment and windrows need explicit terms

Snow clearing, ice scraping, sanding and de-icing can be different services. Ask what the contract covers after a thaw and refreeze, including whether visits occur when no new snow has fallen.

Identify any product restrictions for pets, plants or surfaces and ask the provider how it handles them. Do not assume that “ice management” includes unlimited product or repeated visits.

The City's winter-maintenance FAQ identifies driveway windrows left by plowing as the adjacent owner's responsibility. Confirm whether your chosen package includes them and when they will be cleared.

Make the property easy to service

Agree on parking arrangements, gate access and where snow can be stored. Mark fragile features and explain areas that must remain accessible. Keep the service map with your contract so a replacement crew has the same instructions.

If you are redesigning the yard, consider winter access before installing a new gate. Our fence cost guide includes planning questions that can prevent awkward access later.

Snow removal is also distinct from work at roof level. Do not assume a driveway-clearing contract includes roof or ice-dam work. If a roof problem needs assessment, use the separate roof cost guide to prepare questions for a roofing professional.

Questions before booking

Is unlimited service really unlimited?

Ask what triggers a visit, how often the crew returns during a long storm and which extras are excluded. “Unlimited” still needs a defined service.

Do corner lots cost more?

They may have more sidewalk to clear. Send the actual service measurements and ask for an address-specific quote.

What if I only need sidewalks cleared?

Request a sidewalk-only price. There is no benefit in comparing a full driveway package with a smaller scope you actually need.

Which quote should I choose?

Choose the contract that clearly covers your property, timing requirements and ice-management expectations at a price you understand. Written scope and a reliable contact process are essential parts of the service.
